Great story that holds up to the test of time.

I read this book for my book club, and I have to say I really enjoyed it! Usually I don't like classic books, such as The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton or Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie. They just seem so dry to me and it feels like I'm wading through mud to finish them. Although it still felt a little dry at times, I thought the pacing was much better in this book than any other classic I'd ever read. Perhaps it was just the fact that Treasure Island had more action in it than most of the classics I've read. Whatever it was, I enjoyed reading this novel a lot more than other classics I've read over the years. There was one thing that hindered my enjoyment of this book, however, and that was the sailing talk. I live in a landlocked state, so I don't know the first thing about sailing on a boat in the ocean. Because of this, there were a lot of terms that were unfamiliar to me. Also, the way the pirates talked sometimes confused me as well. I suppose that this could be contributed to the English language evolving through the centuries, though. All in all, I enjoyed this book a lot, almost as much as I enjoyed reading his poems in A Child's Garden of Verses.

i think i would rather play assassin's creed black flag for 5 days straight with covid again than think about this book ever again. i only decided to give it another chance because i was planning on reading a retelling and i just wanted to know what the base material is

Classic and full of swashbuckling!! Gotta love Stevenson!

A really accessible read for a classic, and the humour was reminiscent of ‘The Princess Bride’ which I loved. The chapters were also really short and the story didn’t drag at all
