Remember really hating this book
The main thing I remember is him randomly ending up falling asleep in an apple barrel
Seems like the author just needed some way to change up the plot

This wasn't my kind of book. I'm not really into pirate lore, so for the most part, I couldn't care what was going on. I would probably like an adaptation of this story better than actually reading it.

Why do I try and make myself like “classic” novels, not for me

It's always nice to read a "classic" and realize it's just a really fun story at any age.

It took me years to read this short classic and I never would have finished it if not for the audiobook at the library. I just don't like it. We are allowed to not like a classic, right?

The Christian propaganda... like if you aren't a Christian you're a heathen. As a non-Christian, I didn't much enjoy that.

I had a hard time reading or hearing the pirate speak. Like I couldn't understand what they were saying. And I get from the Christian man's response that they also had trouble understanding and that was the point... However, it doesn't bring me enjoyment constantly reading stuff that I don't understand.

I understand that Treasure Island has had great influence on pirate tales stories about buried treasure. So I am happy it exists and we therefore have Pirates of the Caribbean (one of my favorite movies). But I don't think reading it has changed my life, brought me enjoyment during the reading experience or altered my way of thinking. So 2 stars I give it... Savvy?

I won this book for a short story competition I won as a child

While not a complete thrill, it definitely kept my attention. Our discussion of the book was very interesting and the plot wasn't completely predictable. Why it didn't have enough depth for me to give it five stars, I can certainly see why it has stood the test of time.
