I had a lot of fun reading this classic pirate adventure story to my two youngest girls. At times they had trouble with some of the old English, and all of us had trouble with some of the sailing terms, but you can figure most things out by context.

I fell asleep listening to these cassette tapes for like six years when I was 8-14. Instant 5 star.
I read this to my 7-year-old. I was surprised by how well it held his attention. We enjoyed it. There are a lot of seafaring terms and ship stuff that I didn't understand and didn't take the time to look up. I'm sure I mispronounced many words. The language is kind of archaic throughout. A lot of violence, drunkenness, and death, too (quote from my son: "Those pirates are stupidheads! They make bad choices!" Thank you, public schools' first grade health unit on drugs and alcohol.) But it's a great story and made for fine bedtimes. The chapters are short. This edition has a nice ribbon page marker. Now we're planning to watch the Disney movie from the '50s.

Enjoyable! I never understand sailing lingo, but I understand great adventure, and Treasure Island is a timeless adventure. "Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum!"
