This was pretty fun. It was a bit slow there in the middle, but I actually had a lot of fun reading this, I can see why it's a classic. I was also totally surprised to see how faithful to the book the movie version (and best version) Treasure Planet was!

I have never read the original. But this Audible Original version was very well done. Some moments were truly terrifying. The story is a familiar one: boy dreams of the sea, sets off to find buried treasure, finds it, makes his way home, continues to dream of further sea adventures. I was able to form a distinct opinion about the major players, developing an extreme dislike for the mom, Sarah; and a real respect for the boy, Jim. Bravo Audible for this free, enjoyable monthly selection.

Re-reading for my children's lit class curriculum. Still love this story, but Kidnapped's even better.

The perfect pirate adventure!

I thought the book was riotously fun. It's a shame that I was not able to appreciate this when I was much younger. I like to believe that young boys and girls are constantly questioning themselves about their own bravery and morality.

Am I being brave or cowardly?
How does this action rate?
Should I do this?
Will I be looked upon harshly after?
Am I brave enough to do the right thing despite my desire to flee?
Am I a good person?
Do I want to be a good person?
Am I a man/woman/boy/girl/trans/alt that can be trusted?
Why would it be better to be a person of my word?
Is violence the correct response?

These are just the beginning of the questions that someone should read, and then read again to ask themselves as the actions and decision points are reached in the novel.
