Better than the partially satisfying TV adaptation. More hardboiled than William Gibson, but also less cyber and punk. A great whodunnit that uses its world well. Badass fights and a proto-Master Chief-type superhuman fascist lead.

Morgan develops an engrossing and interesting sci-fi setting that is the backdrop for a well thought-out mystery/thriller plot. I really enjoyed the sci-fi elements, and the plot uses/focuses on them nicely. I didn't think the climax and resolution were particularly well done, but it was a very enjoyable read.

More drugs than I was happy about, a fair amount of sex that wasn't terribly interesting to me, but really a fantastic book! Really! The sex and drugs had the feeling of some of the early Spenser for Hire books, as if it was in there because it seemed like a good idea at the time. The drugs played a larger role here, though. Anyway, I look forward to reading the next book.

Fascinating concept and some excellent world building. In some places a little long and unnecessarily crude.

I struggled to get through this. Fantastic story though! That's what kept me going! A well thought out and consistent scifi universe with a noir bend, reading this reminded me of Heavy Metal (really old movie, but if you've seen it, you get why). Great for entertainment value, but littered with adverbs (seriously - I almost gave up because of it).

The writing improves a lot toward the end, but still a bit of work to make progress if you care about that sort of thing. Superb story though!

I've been trying on and off to read this book for months with no success. The writing style was dry, the mystery didn't interest me, and overall it wasn't good. The sci-fi/cyberpunk concepts were incredibly interesting, but were ultimately let down by the sheer amount of apathy I felt reading it all. Also wasn't a fan of the sheer amount of bigoted nonsense this writer felt necessary to include, most of it culminating in me uttering "what the fuck" to myself at three in the morning. Some of the lines in this book bro. It makes me wonder how it ever got past editing.

Sadly, not for me. A star is given for the interesting concepts, however.

Rating: 1/5 stars.
