The pacing and the series of events reminded me a lot of the Percy Jackson books, which isn't altogether bad, but I saw what was coming now and then. However there were plenty of other little surprises and gems that will keep me coming back, and Riordan's books are almost guaranteed to be fun, amusing, and cute. The only thing that threw me was the back and forth first-person. Sometimes I forgot who was telling the story and thought it was one of the other characters.
