Jack Reacher, CSI. Other reviewers noted the similiarities between John Puller and Jack Reacher. I mean... pull, reach? John, Jack? Still, the first 2/3 of this book is a pretty good Jack Reacher book. Puller is technically an investigator, and he's tasked by the army to investigate the murder of a DIA officer in rural West Virgina. He kicks ass and takes names through his investigation.
Then things inexplicably get ratched up 45 notches all at once. And I have to say, the book wasn't better off for it. There's a reason that Reacher's opponents aren't usually trying to end the entire world. It's just a bridge too far.
The final resolution seemed very tacked on and rushed. Still, I was interested enough to finish the book.

I actually forgot I had started this, to be honest. That's not a good sign. And in the 6% I did read, it became very apparent that this was Jack Reacher Lite. If I want to read something like a Reacher story, why don't I do just that? Sorry, Baldacci. Come up with your own characters.

Easy to see why Baldacci is so popular. His books are comfortably familiar. In other words, there isn't an original idea in them. You've read it all before. The main character and the plot are rip offs of Lee Child, Stephen Hunter and Nelson DeMille. The writing is totally unoriginal. Every possible cliche gets double-duty. The overwhelming feeling the book conveys is beige.

Read like a movie script
Cried,laughed,scared,awed and amazed
Pretty good detail of a coal town in West Virgina by an Italian. Who would of ever guessed?
John Pullard is alpha as fuarkkk

The book is well written; my only complaint (as it is with most of his books I've read) is that it's way too long and drawn out, with too many details that don't matter to the story.

For a quick read, it gets points. But it doesn't compel me to read any more of Baldacci's. Just didn't float my boat.
