David Balducci always gives me a great story with wonderful characters!

Baldacci is one of my favorite authors. I love his books

I love and have loved David Baldacci's writing style for quite a while, so no complaints there.

I enjoyed the plot although it wasn't extremely different from plots of his other books. It's fast paced and keeps you guessing on who the bad guy is.

The thing that I think Baldacci's books I really driven on are the characters. They're different in all of his books. Different stories. Different morals. Just different.

So why only four stars?

John Puller. Another well created character. Highly punctual and was in the military.

Perfect. The absolute hero.

Now I like a character with depth. I don't want characters to be perfect or never do anything wrong. Their flaws are what completes their character.

After having said that, I really enjoyed this book and I've enjoyed all of Baldacci's other books as well.

Loved the narrators, but not crazy about the book itself. I do like the main character, John Puller but the story did not sit well with me. Mostly due to the fact that the story is based in West Virginia and is in "coal country". This was the most stereotypical storyline about the area that could have been written. I've lived in this area all my life and I did not care for how the state or people was portrayed. The female lead at least was a strong, female who wasn't running around barefoot and pregnant (as my state has been stereotyped in the past). She did her job well and was a good cop that knew a lot about the area. But even liking both of the main characters, the plot was far fetched and the rest of the characters were often played off as simple or do-less. I liked the character well enough to move on to the 2nd book in the series. I'll see if moving the story out of my home state makes me enjoy the book more. We shall see.

This is the first book in the John Puller series. It started out a little slow for me, but it soon picks up. There is a lot of action in this book. John Puller is confident in his skills as a CID officer. His pack contains thousands of dollars in equipments, guns, and knives.

The story takes place in West Virginia as he investigates the murder of an Army Colonel. It's not entirely believable, but it is a very good read.

This was actually an good book. A top of line Army Guy, John Puller, and a local cop, Samantha Cole, race against time to stop a catastrophic event worse than 9/11. Not as much action as you would expect but plenty of gets your heart racing parts.

Due to certain circumstances in my life I have been unable to concentrate long enough to read a book since January of '12. I am kind of glad it was a Baldacci novel that brought me back. I love the way he writes, I love his characters, and while some of his story lines are over the top they never leave you feeling that you could not imagine it happening. His characters are great and as this is the first starring a new Main character I can not wait to se how he develops his story. I have read all of the Camel club books and LOVE those guys.

Side note : After reading a few reviews I hear alot of folks comparing this to Lee Child's Jack Reacher Character.....I tried to read a Child novel of Reacher and could not get into it, so if he is like Reacher, at least IMHO the book was better written? Different strokes I suppose, but I feel better now that I have a "Jack Reacher like" character that I CAN get into. :)

Despite the other reviews I really liked this and like Puller as a character. Yes, he may be a clichéd army guy, as per all these kinds of novels, but it worked well, and Sam Cole was a great match. You get what you expect with these novels.

The story will hold your interest all the way through. The hero, Puller, is very reminiscent of Jack Reacher but with enough differences to maintain an interest. Story is good, but the way the characters are dealt out with in the end is a little arbitrary.
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot

I wish I felt more throughout this read, but I didn’t.
