I guessed a key plot point as soon as they pulled the body out of the lake, but Chandler is good enough to keep me reading to figure out who done it and why they done it.

Not as good as "the big sleep" but still a good read.

Don't get the allure of Chandler. I read "The Big Sleep" many moons ago, but only after seeing the movie, and I thought it was ok. But "The Lady in The Lake," just didn't catch my attention at all. . . maybe I'm too spoiled, too immersed in classic, romantic literature to become interested in his prosaic narratives, seedy characters, places, and plots. I didn't care for Marlowe, for the murder, for the reason behind it, none, zero, squat. I'm I the only one annoyed, vexed by the narrative? so dry, lifeless. Is his style considered pulp fiction? Those cheap novels of the 30's and 40's that were/are easily digested by the masses?
