continuing my way through Discworld books: I heard so many times how this one isn't good for early readers of the series, and honestly, I understand that now. But, I wanted something fun and relaxing to read in bits in few times I got time for the book and this book provided that. It's certainly a product of its decade and being the first work. Still, I had fun. Main characters are amusing and their shenanigans are extremely hilarious, worldbuilding is extremely rich and creative but never overwhelming. I think it drags in the middle and second to part being the least fun isnt helping. So yeah, it isn't a great start of Discworld series but as second or third one and for the purpose of relaxing and getting to know the world better it's fine. 2.5 stars, .5 for entertainment value, especially in the first half.

I haven't read Color of Magic since 2009. Having read other Discworld in between, I really understand now why Pratchett called it and The Light Fantastic "essays in the craft."  This is a chaotic whirlwind of a book and not exactly good, compared to later books in the series. And that's part of what makes in awesome. What a gift we were given, to watch Discworld's (and Pratchett's) progress across the decades. Don't read it for what it is; read it for what it's building the foundation for.

There are some harmful and outdated jokes, particularly towards Indigenous people, in this text and the sequel. However, is never anything relevant for more than about two pages. There are also a handful of “man in a dress” jokes. One of the main characters is extremely unaware about his own wealth, which is played as a joke and not really expanded upon. There is also a fire as a main subplot.
