4.5/5 stars!
The Warrior - Maddox Kyronan needs an alliance to help feed his people
The Princess - Jory, the piece of the puzzle to seal the alliance
The Assassin - Asher, the one hired to kill then both
This was Brigid Kemmerer’s first really foray into the world of adult romantasy and I really enjoyed it! I loved Maddox “Ky” Kyronan from the very beginning and he’s definitely going to be a new book boyfriend for many!
This was a slow burn enemies to lovers and friends to lovers enemies to lovers story that had you dying to find out who was going to get pulled into another’s orbit the whole book!
The overall plot was a bit slow at times because there was a lot more romantic buildup but the ending was explosive and I cannot wait for book 2!

This was absolutely fantastic. I loved every minute of this, from the world building, to the banter, to the tension of the slow burn. Jory is the princess being married off to the enemy king, Ky, to secure an alliance. But when she meets him, he's nothing like she's heard. While they're slow to trust one another, a tentative alliance is beginning to form. And then comes Asher.
Jory's childhood friend, but currently an exiled assassin, complicates things with new orders from the Guild. He's torn and wants to keep her safe, but he soon finds he's going to need to keep the king safe as well. As the three of them try and fifure out who is trying to kill them all, their trust is tested. Repeatedly. When they finally have a moment alone, either between two of them or all three, we finally get to see them as just three people who are confused about who they love.
That scene when the slow burn finally burns is not one to read in public my friends. It snuck up and was so worth the wait 🥵🥵🥵🔥!

OBSESSED! I love all the character and their POVS
I haven’t had the pleasure of reading Brigid Kemmerer, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about her YA novels. And while I do plan to read those this one looked too good to resist so I decided to start here. I’m glad I did! Warrior Princess Assassin is the first book in a fun new romantasy series which follows three characters- a king, princess, and assassin. King Maddox (Ky) and Jory (our princess) are forced to marry because an alliance is needed to save a dying kingdom. But someone is out to assassinate them; Jory’s childhood friend being one of them. Thankfully for them, he doesn’t want to do it and the three must stop whoever is behind these attempts together.
I enjoyed this one quite a bit! Its action packed, hard to put down, and has all the angst and tension I crave in a fantasy novel. There’s also a fantastic romance between ALL THREE characters, making it even more intriguing. I certainly wasn’t expecting it, but I adored it more than I can say. The author explored these relationships perfectly while also keeping the fantasy aspects alive. I thoroughly enjoyed it. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy then I highly recommend picking up a copy!

The store I work at received a physical ARC of this title. I picked it up not knowing how OBSESSED I WOULD BE! I've never read a Brigid Kemmerer but luckily for me I now have quite the back list to catch up on.
Warrior Princess Assassin somehow manages to make me feel intimately familiar with all three protagonists even though the whole story only spans over the timeline of about a week. I really felt like Brigid knew her characters' background and motivations. Even when I didn't agree on a decision one would make, it made complete sense for them.
I loved the relationships between all three of the triad. I was rooting for all three to choose each other despite the political machinations trying to keep them apart. I was left swooning for the tender care each of them had for the other.

First lets talk about the cover and how each element/symbol matches them respectively and the order of the title. That symmetry itself tells you that this is gonna be a well planned story.
When I first cracked it open and began reading I became intrigued. As I read, visuals were painted (I absolutely love that about being a reader and with fantasy books its even more fun) it felt like watching an exciting tv series 😂
I became invested in this story so much so it was all I thought about until I'd finished it.
It pulled at my mind relentlessly so I gave in and sat down to conclude the remainder of it within one sitting. A testament to how enjoyable this book can be!
The author knows how to vividly pull the descriptions, plot and characters seamlessly together. Especially the way she wove between 3 characters and their individual feelings & lives. The switches felt natural and easy. Each respective point of view made for a treat as we delved into these character's thoughts and perspectives. Kemmerer takes you on a roller-coaster of emotions which I fully loved! So be prepared.
At first I was torn between Asher & Ky but was more or less team Ky however after what he did to Asher at the Inn. I became mad and converted to team Asher fully. I softened back to Ky as Asher & Jori did coz its impossible not to forgive this man ❤️ The things Asher endured and the way he'd do whatever Jori asksneven if it means risking it all,had my heart! I desperately wanted to protect him! He deserved so much better.
I liked Ky a lot as well don't get me wrong but if it came down to Jori picking and I was made to choose a side I'd have went with Asher.
I'll admit I'm not a fan of this being a throuple as I'm not comfortable personally with this trope. I'd much rather have it be a simple why choose even though I'm not comfortable with that trope either. Frankly tho I'd have preferred it better if this was a simple love triangle and the one that doesn't get with Jori gains a different partner and ends up happy in the end while everyone remains best friends that reside in the same kingdom together. That's just my preference. (I received a surprise physical arc of this so went in blind about the tropes)
That aside this made for a throughly incredible read. Its packed with highstakes, drama, action, romance, magic & emotion. There's not a single chapter that will have you bored which is accomplishing👏🏻 especially when it comes to longer books like this one.
WPA will be a trilogy so I'll be reading book 2 when it releases. I like that this didn't end in a staggering cliffhanger manner so you can manage to wait for the next without feeling antsy. I totally recommend this read.
• Thanks JBP for the surprise physical arc •

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
Warrior Princess Assassin is the starting book of this series and it feels like it. I feel even like this seems to me even like half of book one. While the premise is pretty much an instant hook, most of the book ends up centering the character dynamics and their relationships with each other. Can they really trust each other? It's devoted to giving us a foundation of these characters. Did I love it? Yes. Did it make the entire book feel like the part one of book one? Also yes. If you're in this for the characters, that's great news. But I did want to start the review with that caveat. It's the typical, last chapter "oh this is a book one right? Let's bring back the plot with THE ending" feel. That can be very frustrating for readers. I was reading an e-ARC of this, so I was also pretty taken aback with the pacing and wondering when the shoe would drop. All that aside though, I really liked the character work in Warrior Princess Assassin for the characters to get to know each other more.

Brigid Kemmerer did not disappoint with her debut adult novel!!!
I could not put this book down. Between the 3 POVs and the action and tension between the 3 I was mesmerized by the story. For those who are into "vanilla" romances this book is probably not for you. I don't want to give to much away but this is very different romance wise from her other books. I will say it's top notch for arranged engagement to marriage and slow burn. Tension, angst, wanting has amazing build.
Now to the story line, has great world building you learn about the countries at war and partial reasoning behind it. The magic seems to be elemental and I love the use of using sigils. There is so much happening between political intrigued, figuring out who's trying to murder them, and secrets and betrayals. It's amazing. Along with having the multiple POV between the princess, assassin and the warrior.
Thank you Netgalley and Avon for the opportunity to read this book! This is my honest opinion.
