I'm still loving this series. There were a few times I thought "Girl, quit being so damn naive" but I still enjoyed every second. The plot was still predictable but there were some small twists that were super fun. I can't wait to start the next one. I didn't have the same excitement to reread this one as the first, however I'm guessing I'll want to revisit the entire series again at this rate anyways.

There is nothing more conflicting than a book that is horrendously entertaining. After finishing the first book I needed to get my hands on this one because of how enamored I was with all of the characters. The start of this book was incredibly slow in my opinion, however, I still enjoyed it.
I really love the complexity of all of the characters. I do think that they were a bit watered down but I’m hoping we’ll be able to see them develop a little bit more in the final book. I have loved Tipp, Naari, and Jaren since the first book but I’d be lying if I said Caldron hasn’t wormed his way into my heart.
One of the biggest bothers of this book was the inconsistent tone/dialog/world building. The characters typically measured the time by the position of the sun but later on in this book Kiva said she, “went to check the time”. I’m assuming-based on the earlier world building- she went and looked out the window but, that just felt inconsistent. Similarly, the way some of the characters spoke seemed to modern/cringey to me. Allow me to use examples while paraphrasing;
“your girl”
“I don’t know what I’d do if anything ever happened to you(puppy eyes)
“Same”
NOTE: I’m NOT making fun of my boy Jaren I just got a good kick out of this scene
Finally,Kiva got on my nerves like no other and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a love hate relationship with her. Some of the things she was saying/doing was grinding my gears in inconceivable ways. I had to keep reminding myself that she’s been locked up for 10 years and was being manipulated by her sister. It was an incredibly hard task and with ever turned page I feared my eye was going to have permanent nerve damage from the amount of twitching it was doing.
I do plan on reading the third book when it becomes available at my local library and I sincerely hope that it is a fitting conclusion.
