There is nothing more conflicting than a book that is horrendously entertaining. After finishing the first book I needed to get my hands on this one because of how enamored I was with all of the characters. The start of this book was incredibly slow in my opinion, however, I still enjoyed it.

I really love the complexity of all of the characters. I do think that they were a bit watered down but I’m hoping we’ll be able to see them develop a little bit more in the final book. I have loved Tipp, Naari, and Jaren since the first book but I’d be lying if I said Caldron hasn’t wormed his way into my heart.

One of the biggest bothers of this book was the inconsistent tone/dialog/world building. The characters typically measured the time by the position of the sun but later on in this book Kiva said she, “went to check the time”. I’m assuming-based on the earlier world building- she went and looked out the window but, that just felt inconsistent. Similarly, the way some of the characters spoke seemed to modern/cringey to me. Allow me to use examples while paraphrasing;
“your girl”

“I don’t know what I’d do if anything ever happened to you(puppy eyes)
“Same”

NOTE: I’m NOT making fun of my boy Jaren I just got a good kick out of this scene

Finally,
Kiva got on my nerves like no other and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a love hate relationship with her. Some of the things she was saying/doing was grinding my gears in inconceivable ways. I had to keep reminding myself that she’s been locked up for 10 years and was being manipulated by her sister. It was an incredibly hard task and with ever turned page I feared my eye was going to have permanent nerve damage from the amount of twitching it was doing.

I do plan on reading the third book when it becomes available at my local library and I sincerely hope that it is a fitting conclusion.

I love it. I adore it. 🥰
I don't know why this series isn't known, but I'm LOVING it. I liked the second book even more than the first. The family story and the comparison with the real family are very touching.

p.s.
Why isn't Jaren in the best husband lists? Sorry, but he's a wonderful character.

i knew that snake was up to something keep kiva and torell away from that freak. jarenkiva reunion in the blood traitor I KNOW IT

HOLYYY MOLYYYYYYYYY. was so so cray, insane, looney, etc. in love w/ Jaren, Kiva needs to chill on the "I'm sorry"s, and the ending???????? Ok, Lynette, you didn't need to pull THAT on me. I have nothing else to say, except that it's a literal 5⭐️ read.

The way I managed to give this book 4 stars is beyond me. If I had to describe this book in one word it would be Ragebait. I saw a review of someone saying that they predicted everything and the only person who couldn’t see anything coming was Kiva, that basically summarizes the plot of this book.

It was almost like Kiva managed to lose her mind, and all her brain cells shriveled up and died between this the book and the previous one. Not a single decision Kiva made was well thought out and everything she did contradicted her character in the first book.

Overall, reading this book had me so mad that I wanted to stab my eyes out half the time and jump through the pages to strangle the characters the other half. However, I am a mood reader and apparently someone who enjoys having high blood pressure because I had more fun reading this book than the first one. I just wish the author had made the characters a little less idiotic.
