I liked it, it was fun. I mean, pirates, woo!
Grayson is awesome. Alexandra, though, I never really warmed up to. She was... too perfect, and it made her feel unreal. She was perfectly naive, a perfect lady. But then in the next instant, she was perfectly fierce, willing to stand naked before villainous pirates and stare them down. She would be perfectly frivolous in one moment (again, exactly what one would expect from a well-respected member of the ton) and then perfectly clever the next moment, easily figuring out a situation that everyone from the government to nefarious pirates were struggling to unravel. She was perfectly beautiful, and also perfectly sweet and big-hearted, and everyone simply adored her. She could swing back and forth between perfectly proper and a perfectly wicked lover multiple times in a short span. A paragon of a woman, and every male character in the book fell at her feet within moments of meeting her.
It just was too much. And it did hurt my enjoyment of the book a bit... I was rolling my eyes a couple times.
But it was fun, all the same.

Entertaining. Partially hilarious. Nowhere boring. Not as racy as many contemporary "romance" novels that these days cross the border to erotica quite deliberately, but don't expect something tame like Ms. Cartland's. ;)
One word that comes to mind when I see a Jennifer Ashley novel is "Hard." Hard to put down, hard to go to sleep if I have not finished the book. Hard to not pick up for "just five more minutes". I have never once been disappointed in any book she has ever written.
Alexandria and Grayson kept pulling me back into their world and would not let me sleep until they told me their story. I really hope that in the future, Grayson's daughter gets a book of her own. And I so can not wait to read James's book.
Never once have I been disappointed in anything Jennifer Ashley has wrote, and I anticipate that she will keep that string going.

Totally awesome book. Really funny. I loved the changes and adventure init. I really disliked James every time I read about he I just wanted to bitch slap him and tell him to man up and get over it. Loved Greyson's household Jacobs Oliver and loveable maggie.
4 1/2 stars
Very happy with this book - it started off really well, then just got better with each of the characters' back story and current happenings
Grayson is lovable, if anything a tad annoying with his highhandedness, but reading his sections of the book in his POV was better, I found, than Alexandra's because you got to see just how affectionate he is :3
The Pirate Next Door was my first ebook, and it doesn't feel like iv finished it - something about never actually CLOSING a book when it's done.. A little sad because the ending really needed something like the closing of the book to complete it, but no matter.
Overall a really good read - my first full on romance book, but definitely better than some of the others

This author is new to me as I only discovered her last year. I loved her newer novels featuring the Mackenzie family. When I found out that she had written early books I wanted to read those as well. This book had potential. I really liked the main characters of Grayson and Alexandra. However, there seemed to be too many story lines. This made it hard for me to follow at times because you have to remember who has a beef with which character. I am not sure if I am going to read the other books in the series. If you this author is new to you start with her Mackenzie series.
It was sometimes funny when all those abductions and threats and so on happened and everyone was so unmoved about it all - retaining the detached air and all ;) But it was a fine read, looking forward to next in the series.
I'll be honest, this book was a bit exhausting! It was good, but wowza was there a lot going on!
Ok lets try to sum this up, be warned there will be some spoilers.
So ex-pirate, turned Viscount, Grayson Finley moves in next door to the widower Alexandra Alastair and attraction sparks at first glance. Alexandra is looking for a new husband and Grayson (awesome name by the way) makes the list, yes she has a list with coded marks that represent different things, kind of like a point system.
Problem one- is that people, namely the Duke of St. Clair, know about Grayson having been a pirate, and unless Grayson helps the Duke with something he's going to end up being tied for piracy. Two- Grayson's ex- best friend and business partner, James Ardmore, is once again out to end Grayson's life due to past perceived wrongs. Three- There is another Pirate in town, one that perfectly fits the quote 'rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated', and they happen to be gunning for both Grayson and James.
As you can see there is a lot going on, at times it can be hard to follow but in the end I was entertained. Yes this could have been a straight forward plot and it could still be intresting, but the author added in all these little sub-plots that add to the story as a whole. the only down side to that was that you really didn't get to spend quality time getting to know the main H and Hr.
