Daisy Jones & the Six meets Nick Hornby? I'm really afraid not. I lost track of how many times the author wrote "if you really want to know", "if you want to know the truth", "if you ask me". I don't want to be harsh, but this was poorly written. Everything happened way too fast with no plot or character development.

This book is truly awful

I’ve been searching for similar fictional rockstar vibes since reading Daisy Jones and this one missed the mark completely.

For one, why does the main character insist on using peoples names in every single sentence in which he speaks to them? It ruins the experience

None of the characters felt particularly well thought out and none of them had very much depth to them. I didn’t form any kind of connection to any character which, to me, is fundamental to my enjoyment of a story. It’s hard to read an entire book when everybody is unlikeable and not in an endearing way

Brief Synopsis:
Levi Jaxon has been living in his best friend’s basement after moving around foster homes for years. After taking an audition at Abby Road Studeios for American band, Downtown Exit, Levi is throw in to a world of rock and roll stardom. However, will he learn to navigate the negative egos, jealous fits and shocking secrets in this new life or will they take him to rock bottom instead?

My Thoughts/Opinions:

This novel is a fast read & gives us a little taste in to the music industry world & what can happen when you’re thrown in to it at a young age.
The problem I had with this book though was that everything felt flat. The characters didn’t feel properly developed or given a ‘life’, the plot was a little underwhelming & sentences were repetitive or felt as if there was not enough meat in them to create an image. (If that even makes sense??).

I enjoyed some of the drama in here but honestly, it just felt really flat for me unfortunately. I don’t know if maybe the repetitiveness was the main issue for me with this one. I’m sorry!!

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and Netgallery for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

2 ⭐️ I wanted to like this book sooooo bad. I was desperately searching for something to replicate the high of reading "Daisy Jones and the Six" and marauders band au fanfics, and I was really excited to find this (esp with the Bowie reference in the title!) However, I could not become invested in this at all. The characters fell flat for me, and the plot did not keep my invested enough to compensate for the two-dimensional characterizations.
