I really, really, REALLY like the pacing of this series. I was nervous when I heard the series ended and it would only be 13 volumes, but the pacing's been both tight yet quick that I have no doubt it could wrap up nicely at 13 volumes.

This volume was full to the brim with incredible fight scenes, and I loved the imagery in the fight between Chobe and Gabimaru. First off, that fight was dope to begin with, but that scene where Gabimaru is starting to remember his wife, she puts her hand on his shoulder, and he uses his aura to cut her arm off was SO cool. Shadows and paneling really make the fight scenes pop, though sometimes it can be hard to tell what's going on.

More worldbuilding is given and we finally get a better idea as to what the island is and why such strange events are occurring. I'm amazed that I never feel like the exposition is boring or is bogging down the story, despite there being a lot of exposition to dump. While I wouldn't say this is the most compelling story, the mystery-horror elements keep me engaged.

Anyway, this was another great volume in a series I'm shocked I love as much as I do. Well done, Kaku!

“BUT MY DEATH WON'T MATTER.
THE VILLAGE'LL JUST SEND A REPLACEMENT
TO PICK UP
WHERE I LEFT
OFF.”

This volume kicks off immediately with Gabimaru and Aza Chobe pummeling each other, and while very short, the strength and improvements the two have made during their short time on the island is massive. Mei gives some more information on the island and the elixir, and I was fascinated by that part. I love getting to see the Shinobi from Gabi’s village of Iwagakure, who act as both reinforcements as well as hitmen to kill Gabimaru, as ordered by the Village Chief. A little more tame in comparison to the previous volumes, but still bloody and solid throughout.
