first thriller i’ve ever read and i thoroughly enjoyed it! when i first started reading, i had already predicted 2 of the biggest twists, however i still found myself getting excited at how they played out. there were a few other things i didn’t expect, and the last 60-50 pages had me on my toes. i felt that the beginning drew me in immediately, however i started to struggle a bit mid way as i felt it was dragged out and not really going anywhere. i also found myself forgetting some of the characters, which led to confusion and having to re-read certain parts (also there was no chapters?! might just be the e-book version but i wasn’t a fan lol). the standout for me was the flash backs to when they were kids, the stories of the woods and “The Goddess Game”. very whimsical, mysterious, eerie energy which i ate tf up. overall i’d definitely recommend!

4/5 really good mystery/thriller read! I didn’t feel dragged along in any parts and my first guess of to how it would play out was debunked right before the end so I thought that was well written by Marshall.

Overall very solid thriller novel with multiple twists and turns! Definitely kept me on my toes with surprises I wouldn’t have guessed.

What I appreciated most about this book was the sensible unwinding of the mystery. Foreshadowing, red herrings, etc. I wasn't able to predict the ending from the beginning, but by the time the ending came, it wasn't a ridiculous twist no one could have seen coming. It made sense as the story unraveled.

I'd say there wasn't a single reveal that was totally surprising, and that is such a good thing. A+ in that regard. And even though it wasn't shock and awe unbelievable twisty, it was a complicated and interesting set of circumstances.

My least favorite part was the violent confrontation with the killer(s) at the end. Unfortunately, this is a hallmark of the thriller genre, so I can't hold that against the author.
