MM - contemporary romance - trans MMC - trans author - low steam - pov third single - age gap - child free - bisexual MMC - divorced MMC - workplace - short story - 4 stars.

After adoring Peter Darling I put Austin Chant’s other books (all two of them :joy:) on my TBR. This one is pretty different - a contemporary which is fairly light. It’s set in the campaign office for a politician but it was not super political. The trans MMC deals with misgendering in the workplace and just overall a life that needs improvement. I wished there had been more resolution in the workplace plot - like Marcus being a dingus - but otherwise I enjoyed it.

Dnf 65% Grumpy x grumpy isn't my cup of tea, I fear. The relationship is just.. getting angry at each other and apologizing in an endless loop. I didn't enjoy any of it. The conversations have little value, they talk about feelings without getting anywhere at all. No progress. Always repetition.

Heartfelt moments keep getting ruined and the conversation where something actually happens is skipped.

Idk Kieran is a mess and I don't particularly enjoy reading his thoughts and the things that come out of his mouth. He stresses me out. Compared to Seth he reads as incredibly immature, like Seth is way too old for him.

Kieran doesn't feel all that consistent to me either, the whole story is chaotic and tense, which makes it harder to put up with.

Does he like Marcus or does he not? It flips all the time. I know I can't stand the guy and am sick of his shit.
The plot says Kieran takes the job more serious. Then the plot says he doesn't take it serious. Which is it?

The Mr. (insert unfunny reference here) banter does absolutely nothing for me. Peter Darling had great chemistry, but here it's so dry. Over halfway through and I still don't want them to be together, no interest in finishing this lmao.

While this novella does it decently well, I really don’t like supervisor employee romances.

A cute little love story, which manages to touch on topics of acceptance, belonging, being out in the workplace and coming out later in life. I'm not the biggest fan of office romances, especially when there's a power disparity between the lovers, but this was handled quite well, so I still managed to appreciate the story. I would still recommend it, for a quick and easy read.
