I loved this book! It was an easy read. I loved the characters and the love story between Joe and Cate.
I’m a big fan of Emily Giffin’s writing so imagine my happiness when I found an arc copy of Meant To Be in my local free little library
This had potential but overall I did not like it. I have loved Emily Giffin’s writing in the past, but this didn’t live up to my expectations for her writing. I read in a different review that it comes across like fan fiction and I agree. I know the authors note says that it is based on the Kennedys but so much of the storyline is similar to actual events, that it doesn’t feel fictional. It sits weirdly with me that you would write in the actual way these people died and then rewrite it as if they lived. In addition to that, I just thought the last part of the book was so frustrating to get through. If I wasn’t so close to the end I would have DNF’d it. The whole point is that these characters are “meant to be” and yet Cate withdrawals from the relationship every time something tough comes up that she doesn’t want to deal with. You are literally about to marry this man and when life altering news is revealed to you, your first instinct is “I should breakup with my fiancé so I don’t have to tell him instead of just being honest with him.” I am just at the end of my rope with miscommunication troupes in books these days. Anyway, there’s way better romance stories out there so unless you’re obsessed with the Kennedys, I would say skip this one.

So predictable. Also weird to play with history like that. Not my kind of book.

I loved how this book covered the full background of its characters. It made the ending so much more fulfilling.
It was okay. Nothing spectacular. Cate and Joe's journeys were interesting and very different.
I'm not usually a big romance fan but this was cute! At first I was really enjoying the Kennedy inspo, but by the end of the book it was so similar to JFK Jr and Carlolyn Bessette Kennedy's real life that it was basically a fan fiction vibe, which I thought was a little weird. It was an enjoyable read for Valentines Day! <3
