Wow this was not at all what I was expecting. I enjoyed the different perspectives telling a full story and how the events transpired. Is this considered a psychological thriller?

I picked this up expecting a fast-paced thriller (some people called this horror but it’s a stretch). What I got was a quiet, simmering tale of revenge that creeps under your skin and stays there.

Each chapter is a new confession, told from a different point of view (students, parents, friends) all circling around one terrible act. And with every new voice, the story shifts. Not just the facts, but the emotions. The motivations. The blame.

It’s not just about what happened. It’s about why people do the things they do. How guilt festers. How grief turns sharp. How revenge can look elegant, even gentle…until it isn’t.

Kanae Minato writes with a calm, cold precision that makes the final twist feel like a slap in silk gloves.

I didn’t see it coming.

A haunting read I’ll be thinking about for a long time.
