Slower to get into, but by chapter 3 I couldn't put it down. I'm a sucker for books telling the same story from different perspectives. I loved the unhinged ending.

This book was essentially one story told in 5 perspectives + an unhinged ending. I loved it. You'd think reading the same sequence of events 5 times from 5 different points of view would get boring, but each chapter presented such unique perspectives that gives you so much new insight that it felt fresh and new each time.

Everyone character you read about is extremely unlikeable, but you understand why they did the things they did anyway, no matter how inexcusable.

This was a quick read that was well worth the time.

I thought this was a really unique story. Yuko teaches at a middle school, and she had to bring her 4 year old to school at the end of the day. Two boys at the school wanted to test out their invention of a toy that shocks, and the little girl passed out, and she is thrown into the pool, ultimately passing away.

The mother enacts an unusual revenge.

This novel tells the story from several points of view, which I liked.

There was a bit of a stilted nature to the writing, but I attribute that to the translation and/or Japanese cultural differences.

Omg. This was such an interesting thriller, very fast paced. I loved how it was told from different perspectives. The teacher was such a layered, well-written character. Everyone is unhinged. ALL I CAN SAY IS WTF.

This was definitely outside of my usual go-to genres but it was shocking and kind of felt like The Catcher in the Rye if it had murder?? Very fun and scary lol

My only issue was with the multiple retellings. I think three would’ve been enough to bring new dimensions to the story without becoming redundant (as I felt some of the chapters were.)
