Cozy fall / winter read. Modern day witches in New England + a sapphic romance.

thank you net galley for an arc of this book.

This was.... okay? I honestly can't even say what it is I didn't like, it just wasn't for me. I wanted to love this. I went in hoping to swoon over an adorable lesbian couple and ended up feeling nothing. And the "nothing" Is honestly the problem for me. I didn't hate anything about it. but I also didn't love anything. I honestly didn't care about the relationship. When they finally kissed, I didn't get the exciting heart stopping feeling I usually do when I love a romance. When they argued, I didn't get upset with them. I wasn't rooting for them, because I didn't feel much chemistry - and maybe that's because the book is spent through the point of view of a woman who thinks it's impossible for the other to have chemistry with her. Maybe I would have enjoyed this more if we got to see Rory's point of view as well, something to go against the pure self loathing of Morgan believing that nobody could possibly love her. I understand self consciousness, believe me. But when the whole book is just "no way she loves me I'm horrible no redeeming qualities", it starts to become a downer and not fun to read. It would have been nice to see some of Rory's internal thoughts about Morgan and about their relationship.

Sapphic? Witchy? Fake dating? I thought I was going to eat this up and at first I did...then it got bad. Bad might be a strong word. Definitely not good. Morgan went from being relatably awkward to downright cruel to Rory when everything with the love potion happened. Instead of communicating like an adult she did horrible things to make Rory hate her and really hurt Rory. Honestly, Morgan can eat worms.

This book made me SO stinkin' happy. Of course, it was a delightful witchy read for spooky season (though honestly, this would have been nice to read in the summer, since it takes place in the summer... maybe I'll reread it next summer hehe). But it was also just a totally lovely romcom.

This story is ostensibly about fake dating and a potion potentially gone wrong, but really it's about learning to be confident in yourself, believe your own self-worth, and be open to having fun in new ways.

There are a lot of romances that try to have the characters teach/help each other to grow, but this one did it in a way that felt so organic. Morgan and Rory just made sense.

Ugh I have so much to say about this book and how lovely and wholesome and refreshing it is, but it's 9am and I was up late finishing this book, so I'm not very coherent. I JUST LOVED IT SO MUCH.

idk why characters can't just talk to each other so solve their problems.

Such a cute story, I really enjoyed it! I love gay witches!

I don’t understand why such low ratings but I do love cheesy rom coms. Adorably cheesy in the best way possible. I love a good rom com where people hardly know each other and then set them selves up for chaos and then fall in love. It’s the best. I loved the ride of this witchy romance with two main characters that absolutely were like-able and you rooted for them the whole book.

AHHH I LOVED THIS SO MUCH

I really relate to Morgan Greenwood because I, too, have a crush on Rory Sandler.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was sweet and charming, and I liked the characterizations of both Morgan and Rory a lot. This is definitely one of those books where essentially everything could've been solved if the characters had just communicated with one another, but the slight frustration that caused me also made the payoff of them finally getting their shit together in the end that much better.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
