The book is short and reads quickly due to the poem format. It is also very timely with much of the race issues still being discussed today to bring the idea of marchers' voices from 1963 back to mind.

However, Instead of poems written by actual attendees this is an entirely fictionalized account. It is still capable of drawing some emotion but feels flat once you know that none of the "characters" are real.

Fans of Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson might enjoy this with the caveat that this is fiction. The poem style may also appeal to fans of Ellen Hopkins though the "story" is very short.
