I was so excited to start reading this book! I had seen it almost everywhere on my booktok fyp. Sadly, the book wasn’t what I thought. Throughout the book I was constantly aggravated with the main character, I just couldn’t get past her. I mainly disliked how she was being so selfish. The romance also seemed really one sided. A side note, I despised how much she cursed throughout the book. I enjoyed the plot as much as I could but other then that, the book just wasn’t it for me.

2.5 madeline and jasper were unnecessarily childish and immature. it felt more like 12 year old kids fighting then suddenly becoming friends for no apparent reason rather than an enemies to lovers romance

i did like the side characters though (zelda, benny, ravi, astrid etc). i wish they had been developed more and we learned more about their lives

dnf :/, not my cup of tea. the plot has good bones but the characters were just too immature for the 'battling bookstores' and 'saving a family business' tropes in my opinion.

i always feel bad writing negative reviews about books but sometimes we don't like things and that's okay!!

madeline sucked. jasper sucked. the rest of madeline's family and zelda were okay. actually, i kinda liked zelda.

madeline's a self-centered brat and everyone's just "haha that silly madeline. that's just how she is!" jasper's a manipulative little freak and he gave me the ick almost immediately. their relationship is gross and weird and doesn't make sense and i'm not sorry for saying it!!!

i wish i could give big ups for plus size rep but the second madeline bares any skin she immediately wonders if she should hate herself. she claims to be okay in her skin but in like the same paragraph hates on herself?? pls just give us fat girl rep without the weird whiplash.

Just was not personally invested in a YA romance drama that didn't have an element of fantasy to it.
