This book was way darker than I was expecting and I think some of the plot points were a bit underdeveloped like Queenie's background. It didn't bowl me over but wasn't awful either.

Hilarious! So many emotions! This book is a really honest portrayal of recovery and it discusses serious issues in a sensitive way. Shvorne Marks is a fantastic narrator too!

I can appreciate a flawed main character who goes through a transformation during the course of a novel. However, Queenie's self-destructive cycles and struggle with crippling anxiety were tough for me to read. My heart broke for her again and again, as someone who has personally experienced panic attacks and overwhelming anxiety. With all that, it was hard to enjoy this book. However, I look forward to reading more by this author, as this was her debut novel!

So. Much. Trauma.
It’s not specifically anything that triggers me, but this is too much for me right now. To me, this feels more like a chore to read, rather than me actually being invested in the story. (Not poorly written or anything, just currently not for me)

For me, this lived up to the hype that I’d heard about this.

Queenie is a modern flawed woman who I came to love through this audiobook (highly recommend listening as Tamara Lawrence is just FAB).She is going through everything from the breakdown of long-term relationships, a miscarriage, casual sex, systematic racism, workplace romances, childhood trauma and mental health issues and I just found her journey from beginning to end to inspiring.

I was truly gripped from start to finish and was rooting for Queenie like she was a real person!
