Written almost a decade before Pacific Rim brought monsters vs. robots to the big screen, this Warren Ellis story gave us a glimpse of just how much fun that idea can be. Only three issues long, Tokyo Storm Warning has pilots inside giant mecha fighting equally giant kaiju. The only question is, where are these machines and these monsters coming from?
The story is a lot of fun but space was a little too limited to give us all the nuance hinted at in the story. Beautiful artwork from a team of talented artists, however, and some interesting insights into just how robot vs. monster fights might actually work make it a worthwhile read.
