Damn! This book really came in like a wrecking ball. Honestly I still don't know what hit me, except that I strongly, personally love Lidia Yuknavitch.

Really appreciated the writing style but the content was too graphic and disturbing for me, the plot too forced.

I understand that the craft here is excellent, but the crass and disturbing delivery was off putting.

Very talented writer. The subject matter, wow, all the bleeding and fucking and abandonment and abuse and cold shivering kid-in-wood sequences... man, I couldn't make it worth my time. Again, writing was top notch. I was never bored. I just need some beauty - life is drab enough.

I've heard great things about [a:Lidia Yuknavitch|435891|Lidia Yuknavitch|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1383874593p2/435891.jpg], and I absolutely loved The Small Backs of Children. The writing, from page one, is ensnaring, and I was blown away more by the prose itself than the plot in many instances. The revealing, often grotesque intimacy associated with each character is something I'd love to see more of in modern fiction, and is perhaps why Yuknavitch is such a popular and effective author.
My one complaint: I had a hard time keeping up with the character "names" at first, especially with the slightly meandering plot, but once I realized they were never going to actually be named, I started paying a little more attention to their professions and the associated importance of each.

I picked this up after seeing it pop up across social platforms a while back. Might be fantastic, but I just couldn't get into the flow of the narration.
