This volume really hooked me back in to the series. Some really great character development and the authors ability to continue to providing ever evolving plot twists is truly exciting.

I once again find myself joyously surprised by the disability representation in this series, this time with Sage Bel, a paraplegic witch who utilizes magic to get around. And is one of the highest ranking witches! Fantastic. I may be questioning his motives and wondering why Qifrey left the Assembly, but he is so fun and a big highlight of this volume.

The girls continue to work together and Olruggio definitely views them as Also His Kids with Qifrey recovering. He will admit they are not his apprentices, but he cares for them a lot. I also love how much of Olruggio’s personality we got to see in this volume since he is the main adult for the group right now.

It was also fun to see the girls share the Assembly with Coco, who did not grow up there. It’s a wonderfully magical location and the drawings are once again absolutely stunning. I always have a good time looking at and reading this series!
