This instalment was much more calm and sweet than the previous one, so that we could rest a while with our protagonists in the Great Hall.

The slower pacing of this one was a relief after the events of volumes 4 and 5, and we got to discover more still of the witch society. We saw how they use magic to embellish the everyday, and yet how that leads them to isolate themselves even more from the outside world. The Great Hall is situated quite literally at the bottom of the ocean, making its residents very reluctant to leave its wonders and interact with people on the "surface". The reasons why Qifrey had to leave (or chose to leave) are still unknown at this point, and this only adds to his mysterious aura (and charm, might I add XD).
Lord Beldaruit is quite the character, and a very relatable in his pursuit of feelings of wonder. I am eager to know more about him and his relationship with Qifrey, in the next instalment.

The character who takes the spotlight for me in this volume is Aggot. Her character development is impactful in this one, as she is confronted to her past and her previous mistakes that led her to become an outcast. She strives continually to prove herself because of these mistakes, and while it makes her aloof and judgmental, it also made her a very talented and hard-working witch, as well as a very loyal friend. Her confrontation with Coco, whom she used to despise, shows how far she has come already. She let herself be touched by Coco's sincerity, and used it to tune out the judging voices of other mean apprentices in the Hall. Also, these two are so well suited to each other! I hope that their relationship only grows stronger in the continuation of the series

Seeing Qifrey hurt and recovering was painful, I was not ready to see him in such a vulnerable state! And I am worried about Olruggio and where he wants to go after this. Qifrey needs his friend by his side, and Olruggio is too emotionally invested in the girls' lives to leave now!
