DID NOT FINISH

DNF @ 29%. I think this book had so much potential and clearly some readers loved it. It was a great concept…I think? Honestly, I spent over a quarter of the book super confused about what was going on and who was who so I couldn’t make myself keep reading it.

I did not get into this book u til the second half. I found myself having to reread sections due to, in my opinion, missing world building.
However, when things started clicking and weaving together, it made the confusion at the beginning worth it.

Holy hells this book was amazing! Very atmospheric, and I loved the characters. There were several twists and turns and I was on the edge of my seat to the very end. Would love to see more in this world, and while this story definitely concludes, I feel like there are enough strings left to continue on in the future.

For those who are having trouble distinguishing between some characters - try the audiobook! it was really well done. Highly recommend that experience.

Ok, so in the first half of this book, I pretty much had no clue what was going on. I didn’t understand what the bone ghosts actually were or what the purpose of them was. I didn’t know what the mind locks were. I didn’t realize what the characters intentions were or who was who. The politics were also very strange.

I found myself going “what?!” more often than not, but through all the confusion, I was still incredibly intrigued by this unique and mystical world.

SO! As plots were unfolded and truths were revealed in the second half of this book, I really got into it. The world was fascinating, the connections between characters became clearer, and the reveals were all super fun and engaging.

The confusion of it all had a purpose in the end. (Thank God) (although I found the actual ending a little meh in my opinion)

I did really enjoy this read! It just took me a really long time to get through it.

I understand why it took the author a decade to write it. This thing was complicated and convoluted to the max!
