I don't think this is as good as the Lies of Loch Lamorra but it's close. I love Locke and Jean as characters and this is becoming a favourite series of mine (but gosh there's so many)

What made the first book so excellent was how clever Locke was and the general sense of amusement. This is present at the start and end of this book, but the middle is bit of a muddle. Basically whenever they are on dry land, things are going well, when they're at sea, the book isn't as good. Locke is out of his depth and there's no room for clever schemes, so the book loses momentum and the sense of excitement. Plus there were too many plots and schemes and people out to get them, so it ended up being overwhelming.
Still a very good book, it's just missing some of the magic of the first one.

The first book is still my favorite. But I absolutely adore Jean and Ezri in this book. This is really Jean’s moment throughout this story. I found myself not as invested in Locke throughout this book. Drakasha is such a refreshing character. Especially being a mom.
The first 35% was a trudge for me to get through. Similar to the first book. But it was worth it. Also like the first, many things that seem disjointed all come together in the end.
Jean and Ezri forever. ❤️💔
