What an amazing book!
Bree is such a powerhouse of a character. Her strength shines through even when she’s carrying unimaginable grief. She refuses to accept her mom’s death—and honestly, who could blame her? Add to that the pressure of navigating a new school while facing aggressions and outright racism, and you have a sixteen-year-old forced to stand taller than most adults ever could.
The world-building is rich, the concept fresh, and the character development absolutely on point. This book isn’t just a story; it’s an experience, and one that sticks with you long after the last page.

I finished the book and I’m not gonna lie I’m underwhelmed. Honestly the fact this all takes place in two weeks for what happened is ridiculous and there was more lore vs plot in this book that made it a drag sometimes so honestly 3.5 stars is my rating.

mysterious
This is the first time in a very long time that a fantasy series has captured my attention so quickly and so intensely. The way that Tracy Deonn can weave the legend of King Arthur and very real and very horrible things that happened to black women in the 1800s, is remarkable. I cannot wait to start the next book later today.
