DNF; This took me so long to get through and I didn’t even finish it. The FMC is just annoying tbh. I appreciate a goth girl FMC because I am one myself but man I just feel like the author did her so dirty. I wish she would just shut up sometimes. Also her meeting Leon in demon form for the first time while filming a YouTube video made me laugh

Maybe I’m not a smut reader but I think those scenes overshadowed everything else and things were just boring. I needed more to keep me interested

I kind of struggled

Let me start by say I love Harley Laroux The Dare and Losers duet were three of my favorite reads so far this year. This book I struggled with because it had a trope I absolutely loathe the dumb female character. For example she suspects these people are trying to killer her so what does she do... goes to a party at their house and the icing on the cake she accepts a drink from one of the suspects

I have never been a huge reader of monster/demon romances but I think this book changed my mind. The protagonist were amazing, the plot of was interesting, and the spicy scenes were on fire. I cannot wait to read more of this series!

Rae was supposed to be independent and smart - except everything she did was the exact opposite.

Leon was supposed to be the most dangerous of demons - everything and everyone else was stronger than him.

Didn’t quite live up to the hype in my opinion

Booktok got me all excited about this book, so I was ready to dive in. Now, this may be a case of managing expectations but with the hype and a content warning like the one at the beginning of the book, I had HIGH expectations.

Needless to say, I didn’t find this book to be really dark or scary, or overly steamy. That may say more about me than the book… again... expectation management.

Leon was hot, not going to lie, I really liked Leon. But for a centuries old demon, I wish he had been a little more evil and villainous. He talks about how strong he is, but IMO, that was all it was… talk. I would have liked to see him rip a bad guy’s limb off and feed it to him… or something else utterly over the top and appropriate for a demon. I wanted him to be more John Wick and less John Goodman. Although he may not be the anti-hero I was looking for, Leon does have a very dirty mouth and he does follow up on his punishments and those are sinfully delicious.

Raelynn on the other hand is seriously the epitome of the TSTL heroine. I really just couldn’t connect to her or her thought process. She refuses to heed warnings, has no sense of self-preservation and makes the worst choices. (FACEPALM) I just couldn’t get behind her at all. I prefer my heroines to want to live and be a tad more intelligent.

Cheesecake stole the show…

Even with the missed expectations, I did find the storyline interesting and all the kinky fuckery is consensual and hot. I will probably read the next book down the line as I did enjoy the secondary characters.
