I found it difficult and a bit dull to read through the first few chapters that covered the Frank’s business. I chose to skim read the chapters that covered life in hiding. Personally I preferred reading Anne Frank Remembered by Miep Gies and My Friend Anne Frank by Hannah Pick-Goslar. Both of these accounts gave such rich perspectives of who Anne was.

Great book to pick up if you are interested in more context about Anne and the family and friends that were a part of her life. It also gives a closer look at what their life looked like before and during the war. I loved how it included updates on those who survived. It really is heart-wrenching what they had to endure. I only rated it a 3-star because I did struggle with the writing. While it tries to follow a timeline, it does end up jumping around a lot. In some instances, this worked as it was giving context to a person that hadn't been introduced yet. Overall, though, it just got really confusing for me. It also was very repetitive with the same information being given over and over, sometimes back to back. These things made it really hard for me to get into. By the end, this smooths out, and I couldn't put it down.

Excellent book. I have read and enjoyed Anne Frank's diary. This book gives dimension and weight to her story. It will change how you see her and how you read her words.

I finished this biography in a deep pondering silence, as I read this book, I felt sucked into it. So enthralled was I that I dreaded taking breaks.
Anne came to life once more in this book, seeing the true unflinching look at her character was fascinating, I knew next to nothing about her life before her diary.
I do wish that we had more knowledge of her time after the diary.
This book is a must read for people who have read Anne's diary or are interested in reading about the holocaust.
For a biography to enthrall me and suck me in so deeply, I absolutely have to rate it 5 stars.
