I feel incapable of currently giving this book any type of star rating, due to the how absolutely disgusting and vile the subject matter is.
Dead Inside took me a little over two hours to read.

And none of this is in a funny way + I am not an oversensitive wimp who can’t handle ~gore~
I don’t know why you would write this (actually I do. It’s very clear this author thinks he has a deep and unique POV that we should all care about. And also hates women). There’s so much blatant misogyny and explicit glorification of rape I can’t believe any editor actually sat through the drafting process.
There isn’t even some moody, obscure metaphor for this book to hide behind. It’s literally some dude penning his extreme taboo jack off tumblr fantasies about violating dead women (and children. And babies) (but only the hot ones) and existing “outside the system” while lusting after manic pixie dream girls

Besides all that, this is my first step into the splatterpunk genre, though I am the kind of person who watched the Hills have Eyes movies, and all of the SAW films so I can say that - while some stuff was creative I wasn't that affected by it in the want to go to church to confess my sins and or hurl over what I read.
What the hell is this book about? We have unamed security guard (that is never named so I ended up calling him Nick for a while) is a necrophiliac whom meets a maternity ward doctor who eats dead babies - and is higher than a kite, something you find out early on. So these two meet, and it's security guard having to now deal with another human living being that is honestly after reading it all is captivated by him cus he doesn't give a shit on wanting to be "normal" as Helen - our doctor - wants to be and something might bloom there, but he'll be damned if he does. It's a one sided love story on Helen's end and our security guard wanting nothing to do with it, seeing suffer was entertaining to say the least.
I'll be honesty, I ended laughing more than getting grossed out as it somewhat reminded me of the Evil Dead (2013) movie for some odd reason. But anyway, is the dialogue cringey? Sure, our security guard has a lot to say and is pretty apathetic overall that can get real old real fast. Is the gore for the sake of shock and how extreme it can get cus it get - absolutely. Should Chandler Morrison be on a watchlist, I don't know. A lot of people generally seem to dislike this book either due to its subject or they just dislike the writing, which makes me wonder for Morrisons other books as they have better ratings.

Horrible book. Fucked up. Clearly written by a man, the personality of the main character is cringe and annoying.
I've been super into horror lately but this is just mindless fucked up. First DNF of my reading stint this year. No thank you.
