The main character was such an annoying edgelord, I rolled my eyes so many times. If Morrison did that on purpose in a self-aware way, that's kind of brilliant; but if we're supposed to think the narrator is actually cool and ~dark~ and different, then this book is a massive failure. Very "we live in a society".

The twist at the very end was whatever, but the scene that was supposed to be the most ~shocking and crazy~ has been done before so it didn't end up shocking me.

I don't freaking know how to rate this thing because it's written well but it feels like forbidden literature. WTF WAS THAT?!!!! I had to skip a lot because I couldn't stomach the unfolding events involving babies but I couldn't stop because I kept thinking 'there has to be a point, right?!!!'

I need a day, no a year, off of whatever this is. šŸ˜

I forced myself to finish this book. Every minute was painful and I almost genuinely (scouts honor) vomited on two occasions. Wanted to see if this type of horror was for me and I grossly underestimated how vile it would actually be. This story does not use its vile actions to further the plot, tell any meaningful story, create any suspense, or make any type of commentary. Truly regret reading this book. It had well written descriptions, don't get me wrong, with a story that was aware of how disgusting it was, but it was not something I enjoyed at all. I am a horror and thriller fan, but this is anything but. This is splatterpunk to the extreme. Reader beware.

I feel incapable of currently giving this book any type of star rating, due to the how absolutely disgusting and vile the subject matter is.
No part of me feels that I can say this book deserves any stars. Fucking a dead baby is just something that I cannot get behind. Not even mentioned off hand, this sex act is VISCERALLY explained. There is no true justice or anything for this MC and it's very bleak and disgusting.

Dead Inside took me a little over two hours to read.

This is the most unhinged, terrible, vile, try hard, AWFUL book I have ever read. This book made me want to make a donation to the NSA and sign a petition for more government censorship. Somebody should check this guys computers and then we should lock him in a stockade and throw tar at him.

And none of this is in a funny way + I am not an oversensitive wimp who canā€™t handle ~gore~

I donā€™t know why you would write this (actually I do. Itā€™s very clear this author thinks he has a deep and unique POV that we should all care about. And also hates women). Thereā€™s so much blatant misogyny and explicit glorification of rape I canā€™t believe any editor actually sat through the drafting process.

There isnā€™t even some moody, obscure metaphor for this book to hide behind. Itā€™s literally some dude penning his extreme taboo jack off tumblr fantasies about violating dead women (and children. And babies) (but only the hot ones) and existing ā€œoutside the systemā€ while lusting after manic pixie dream girls

There was a lot of potential for character development but this book was written for (tasteless) shock value.  Repetitive scenes and a wannabe edgelord.

Honestly... I don't know where to start. I picked it up out of curiosity after hearing one of my mutuals on tiktok mentioned it, thinking 'pfffff... how bad can it be?'. BAD. Really bad. I honestly think the entire goal of the author was to gross people out. It worked. I initially DNF'd it after being introduced to the "hobby" of the second character. And then stupidly picked it back up and finished the read. I regret every word I read.

In short; it's about a security guard in a hospital who likes to have smexy times with the dead bodies in the morgue and a maternity doctor who likes to snack on dead babies while having fun with herself. They meet and then science what combining their "hobbies" would look like. And the book ends in gore.

It's very graphically, descriptively written with the sole purpose of making it as twisted and gross as the author is capable of.

DO NOT RECOMMEND READING IT
(literally the only plus is that other horrorbooks are childsplay now)

First book Iā€™ve ever DNF. Iā€™m on an extreme horror kick currently so I wanted to give this a try but almost halfway through this book I still felt as if it was written by an edgy teenage boy.

It seems like reviews are either ā€œthis is the worst book I ever read, I love it.ā€ or ā€œthis is the worst book I ever read, I hate itā€, but all the good reviews have no commentary about the actual substance of the book, theyā€™re all just ā€œwell that was gross.ā€ I understand feeling as if a book must be good because it gave you a visceral reaction but l personally need a little bit of substance with my violence.
