Reviews with content warning for Medical trauma - Dead Inside

Not for the fainthearted, to put it lightly. The prose and approach to character is phenomenal. It goes without saying that the major themes of this book are cannibalism and necrophilia, and the author does not shy away from visceral descriptions of both acts.

This is my first splatterpunk book, and even though the majority of themes are met with revulsion the vast majority of character dynamics/situations negotitate with the severity in an appropriate matter, that is to say--appropriate for their subject manner. The protagonist is quite unlikable, and while there are dips in moments whereas you wonder whether the dislikability is intentional or just potentially reflective of an acidic actual personality of the author it mostly fits the story.

That is to be said, the most grotesque scene in this book (if you've read it, it's very obvious, the one about 2/3 to 3/4 through the book) is very clearly written to offend and due to its nature comes across more as shock jock tomfoolery than necessary revulsion. The last action taken in the scene by the characters is far too meta but for a book that is so meta-aware the text does nothing to indicate it understands that angle at this point in the story. As it stands, the concept of exploring humanity's dark psychological recesses is certainly possible but it will always reek of tryhardism if we simply rely on weak, ineffectual shock without any existential consequence.

No just no up until page 100 I thought this book isnt that bad then page 100 happens and I just cant unless you are okay with necrophilia including that of a dead fetus stay far far away I'm physically ill

The content of this book is absolutely disgusting, having said that, it wasn't the worst written thing I've read. There were moments I found genuinely funny, and if you want a book written from the POV of someone irredeemable, this would be a good option. I recall reading from somewhere the author saying this was supposed to be some sort of satire, I don't know if that's true or if he was trying to cover up what could be considered misogynistic tendencies in the writing/main character, honestly it doesn't matter to me, this book was a vile fever dream.

Would only recommend this book to someone who might want to test their limits for gore/horror etc. as that's why I read it, otherwise, whew just leave this book alone.

This is the most unhinged, terrible, vile, try hard, AWFUL book I have ever read. This book made me want to make a donation to the NSA and sign a petition for more government censorship. Somebody should check this guys computers and then we should lock him in a stockade and throw tar at him.

And none of this is in a funny way + I am not an oversensitive wimp who can’t handle ~gore~

I don’t know why you would write this (actually I do. It’s very clear this author thinks he has a deep and unique POV that we should all care about. And also hates women). There’s so much blatant misogyny and explicit glorification of rape I can’t believe any editor actually sat through the drafting process.

There isn’t even some moody, obscure metaphor for this book to hide behind. It’s literally some dude penning his extreme taboo jack off tumblr fantasies about violating dead women (and children. And babies) (but only the hot ones) and existing “outside the system” while lusting after manic pixie dream girls
