The stakes are so incredibly high in this second and final book of the series. Rune and Gideon are constantly finding it difficult to choose between their love and their loyalties.

I have to be honest though, in terms of plot, this was super predictable. There was no suspense for me; I could tell what was coming next and who the hidden intel was going to be. But I didn't even care because the witchy vibes in this are absolutely immaculate. I love a good book with witches and this delivered on every front. Kristen's writing is really great. Consider this line: "If this was weakness, he wanted to be weak. If this was sin, let him be damned to hell." Like miss ma'am, you absolutely popped off with this one. Her prose elevates everything, even when the plot beats are familiar. The ending was amazing. Okay, this might be a stupid personal opinion, but I love tragic endings, and there was a point where this book could have gone that way. Kristen chose the HEA route instead, which is fine of course (and I belive what every normal reader would want), but I think it would have been a six-star read for me if she'd gone the other direction. I'm a sucker for beautiful devastation, what can I say?

Even though the individual books aren't 5 stars for me, the duology as a whole absolutely is! I think this is one of those aptly hyped series that actually lives up to the buzz. I cannot wait to see what Miss Ciccarelli is bringing us next, she's definitely an author whose books I'll be looking forward to.
