Really, the title sums it all up. Everything is quaint and charming and delightful... until it's not. And the darkness just comes out of nowhere and swallows you up. Then spits you out and things are sunny again... until they're not.

Creepy, spooky, horrific. Not for the faint of heart.

Dead bodies (maggots, bones, blood, decay), murder, live burial, and general cruelty.

Do not be fooled by the oddly child-like cover.

What a strange little story. I'd love to read some behind-the-scenes info on this. A collection of beings attempt to form a semblance of a society, but greed, pettiness, and jealousy usually win the day. The cruelty of the story is contrasted by the cutesy-ness of the art.

Tohle je hodně naturalistické a temné. Znázorňuje to krutost nezkušeného dětského mozku. To všechno v kantrastu s téměř až pohádkovou kresbou. Absolutně netuším, jak to hodnotit. Je mi těžce nevolno, úzko, musela jsem si od toho jít odpočinout v pár momentech, takové creepy násilí. A ani si úplně nejsem jistá, jestli jsem to pobrala správně, ale pravděpodobně se mi o tom bude zdát.

Každopádně vůbec nelituju přečtení.

I read this perfectly named book in one sitting, and got lost in its dark charm immediately. Unexpectedly funny, macabre, chaotic, and gory at the same time, this graphic novel explores the darkest parts of humanity in an anti-fairytale setting through gorgeous art. It packs so many emotions and twists in so few pages that I was left dizzy by the end. Equally nauseating and mesmerizing, proceed with caution.
