This was a good book overall, but it had some trouble keeping me engaged, particularly in the second half. This is very much a character based story with not a lot of external plot to move it along. The subject matter was also much heavier than I expected, with the FMC dealing with panic attacks and flashbacks due to an earlier sexual assault, which is described in the text. Readers who take a hard line on infidelity should also be aware that the MMC was not celibate during their five years apart, post wedding but before the beginning of the story. This worked for me because their initial agreement was for a marriage in name only with no expectation of fidelity, and their true marriage did not begin until he returned home, but other readers may feel differently. At the end of the book I was eager to start the next in the series, so ultimately it was a fulfilling read.
