This is a charming, clever kid's story! I don't know how it is that I never read this as a child, but I'm glad to have read it now, and just in time for "Halloweeny" as it's called in the book.

Amy is a brave little girl who, along with her best friend Clarissa, "banquishes" Mean Old Wicked Witch to a glass hill to keep her out of trouble. But when that becomes too boring, Amy and Clarissa write all kinds of adventures for Old Witch, including adding Little Witch girl Hannah, and Weeny Witch Baby BeeBee to the family. Everyone is watched over by Amy's "representatiff" Malachi the spelling bee.

The story is a delight and would be the perfect book for reading to any young girls.

Once I started it, I remembered it from when I was young. Somewhat repetitive, but cute.

I really wanted to enjoy this story but had such a hard time liking the book.
Perhaps I missed something along the way, but I just didn't connect Amy very well with Old Witch.
I did like Little Witch and her adventures, but some of her adventures seemed to not fit well with the story as did some of the characters. I may have enjoyed this as a 7 or 8 year old, but this wasn't the best fantasy children book that I'v read.

4 stars. This is the story of Amy and her friend, Clarissa, who are six years old and who draw an entire family of witches into existence. They're your stereotypical blond little girls but Amy, at least, is a bit bloody-minded. Together they've decided that the Wicked Old Witch is to be "banquished" (banished and vanquished) to the top of a glass mountain and forbidden to come down except at Halloween provided she has been good. Not satisfied, Amy decides that the two of them should draw various happenings around the Witch and those drawings come to life as the story in the book. There's the arrival of the Little Witch Girl (who looks just like Amy/Clarissa) and Weenie Witch, the Old Witch's rabbit hunt, and much more. There's also a wonderful bumble bee named Malachi who is a spelling bee. I read this for my 2020 Reading Challenge (Swords/Stars "recommended by SF/F author"-Seanan McGuire).

So sweet and adorable! A great depiction of imagination and how it works =3
It is meant for children, but the day-dreaming, fantasizing part of me thoroughly enjoyed this book! That's why it took me so long to read, I didn't want it to end.

I have extremely fond memories of this book - it was one of the first that I checked out from the public library (and I did so frequently). Very imaginative tale about witches, spelling bees, and mermaids!

So I've been meaning to read this book for a long time because it was a favorite of my mom's when she was a little girl. I tried reading it when I was about her age, but I just didn't have the attention span I do today. I gave it 3 because it's just not meant to be read for my age, but if I was younger (like 8-9ish), I would probably give this 4 stars. I love stories about witches and this is a cute story with them :)
