Felt like it was a bit of a cop out to do like two “fake” relationships back to back, they were different enough that I still liked them both! But ya would have appreciated something different for book 2

Okay, I'll admit it. This may not be as good a book as I think it is, but I loved it because I loved "While You Were Sleeping," and this story was inspired by it. August and Nico may dislike each other both on and off the ice, but the heat between them when they encounter each other one night can't be denied. Unfortunately, not long after their one night stand, Nico has a seizure after taking a second nasty hit during a game, and it's discovered that he has a brain tumor. Concerned because he fears he missed a call during the game, August sneaks into the hospital using the ruse that he's Nico's fiancé, only to end up trapped when Nico's best friend...and then his parents...turn up close on his heels.
There were so many small touches that made me love this book. Neither character's family was perfect--Nico's family loves him, but they drive him up the wall by being overprotective (though August later explains to him why). August's brother might initially seem like he's going to be some smarmy playboy, but when he finally gets the chance to meet Nico's socialite influencer best friend, he turns into this total dork. Nico's recovery from his tumor is realistic--he doesn't make a miraculous comeback (even the steamy scenes between him and August are impacted by this), and the effects of their "relationship" have a realistic effect on August's career (which he himself acknowledges and comes to accept).
My record with Brigham Vaughn's books so far has been hit-and-miss. The first book I read, in a different series, was decent, but I couldn't finish the second. This one was definitely a hit, so I'll probably go back and read the first in this series before continuing with the others.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would have liked it more if it didn't have pretty much the same trope as the first book.
“Two minutes for hooking.” “I’ve never hooked a day in my life. I’m definitely good enough in bed to get paid for it but I don’t exactly need the money.”
