It is not my usual practice to read a novel without knowing anything about the synopsis or the author. But occasionally I will bend my rules and I was well rewarded with this novel. It is a gem.
When Lucas Winter runs out of fuel in the middle of nowhere he has no option but to walk to the next deserted looking town. Straight away he ends up in a lot more trouble when a local gets under his skin.
Very early on in this novel I was intimidated. There was something about the level of darkness and how loud his footsteps sounded in the silence that made me feel edgy.
Everybody seemed untrustworthy and scared. When he started asking questions life became more uncomfortable and he just made his situation worse. I had no idea who he could get on his side but I assumed that everything would be resolved and he would be able to leave and get on with his journey. That is, until I received one of the biggest shocks I have come across in fiction. If it was possible for my chin to hit the floor it would have done. It showed that you should never assume to know which way a novel is going. And, the twist worked very well.
This is a fantastic novel by a debut author who I will happily read again.

I’m a sucker for small town claustrophobia, so needless to say, Anaconda Vice is right up my street. So much so, that I devoured this book in a handful of sittings over 24 hours. I just couldn’t put it down!

Lucas Winter is a fantastic character. Retired from wrestling, Lucas is returning home from an event when his car decides to give up on him on the side of a road. Seeing lights in the distance, Winter finds himself walking into Anaconda, a seemingly deserted town that is all shut up for the night.

Hanging around in the hope of getting his car towed to a garage, Winter unwittingly finds himself in trouble with the law after an altercation, and when the other person turns up dead, well then he’s in real trouble.

What follows is a dark journey into how far a place will go to keep outsiders away and the lengths they will go to protect their own. Finding it hard to clear his name, Winter finds himself in big trouble. It’s really hard to review this one without going into too much detail!!!!

I genuinely loved this one. Lucas Winter is a fresh new addition to the list of characters I will want to read about forever, up there with Jack Reacher and Harry Bosch even! A story full of surprises, showing the extremes to which people will go to keep secrets buried. Anaconda Vice is an absolute thrill ride. Exciting, clever and action-packed. A superbly written thriller, it has a quiet menace that builds with intensity until the explosive end.

Highly recommended!

When this book came up for review, I jumped at the chance to read it. I seem to be going through a thriller phase at the moment and this book fit exactly what I wanted. Fast paced, action packed, keeps you on the edge of your seat and unpredictable.
I managed to finish this book in under 24 hours. I couldn't put it down, I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.
New comer, get stranded in a small town. But not everything is as it seems. The residents have secrets and will do anything to protect them even if that means framing the innocent.
Lucas was a fantastic lead character, he was relatable and a really likeable guy. He was innocent and would do anything to prove that to the police. I was rooting for him from the start and I was definitely hoping he would get the ending he deserved.
I will definitely be on the look out for future books by this author.
