Okay so I feel like this book gets a bad wrap. Is it perfect? No. Have I read infinitely more challenging and skilfully crafted stories? Yes.
However, the writing style of the author is enjoyable and had me in stitches at the utter filth of it. In a time when things are so serious, this was a lighthearted lift that needn’t be overthought.

I did think the larger issues such as EDs and family trauma were handled a little too lightly and were owed deeper analysis & integration in the plot.

I felt conflicted after reading the book - for the most part it was an easy read and it feels nice to really rush through a book.
However, I do think the heavy topics that are introduced and never really dealt with or just mentioned flippantly (grief, ed, bad relationship with parents) make this book feel so lacking and as if it's ticking off trauma boxes.
Also, this book has been marketed elsewhere as lgbtq, and while there are women having sex with other women in it, the sex scenes and people seem soooo straight and binary.

And I agree with any criticism regarding the character and her naivety/unbelievable or repetetive sex scenes.

Read it if you want to, but I guess there are other easy reads/fun books with more insight, sensitivity, or better sex to choose from imo.

that the protagonist ends up with a woman and is miraculously freed from any self doubt or insecurity is weird and irritating. Her sexuality and character arc both dont fit this instant 100% turnaround</spoiler

I felt like there were too many plot points in this book -  could have done without the career plot line and definitely without
the graphic depictions of sexual assault and eating disorder plot line

The exploration of societal expectations and norms of adulthood, and the challenges of pushing against them, was more interesting and the more compelling aspect of the narrative. The author makes really astute observations on partnership and platonic love through Violet’s story, but they get a little lost in everything else that this book is trying to do.

I REALLY don't know what to say about this one! I was really enjoying it, and the bisexual representation was spot in, for the first time! There was this feeling though to me that the last 10% things happened that shouldn't have all happened so fast in my opinion, it was just really jarring and a little bit too neat. Overall I enjoyed the book, but there needs to be some major content warnings and I think serious themes such as EDs were just kind of thrown in flippantly and then ignored. I enjoyed the authors writing style but yeah< I am going to have to put more thought into this one!

This book is dumb. There is so much lack of explanation from scene to scene sometimes. The main character is supposed to be 26 years old but the whole time she acts like a teenager who’s prefrontal cortex is no where close to being fully developed. She is completely hypocritical in terms of her thoughts and actions and then wonders how she ended up in the situation she’s in. The sex scenes in this book were okay *biggest shrug of my life* but they always had such a weird undertone about them. I’m so surprised I did not DNF this book. The only reason I did not give this zero stars was because
the fact that Violet and Nadia made up but even that plot line was dropped after a chapter. Also the dinner scene with Sasha and Mimi was cute but once again dropped after a chapter. JUST FOR HER TO GO INTERACT WITH LOTTIE AND SIMON THE NEXT DAY. Also her description of her SA scenes and eating disorders were done absolutely terribly. I was not satisfied by the ending. Ironic for the book title.

Firstly this book was hilarious (while somehow also being incredibly sad). It was easy to read and I flew through it! I really wish the ending wasn’t so rushed though, it felt a bit just odd. Like magically things changed over the last 30 pages. Also I don’t know if it was just me being unobservant but there really wasn’t much of a sense of time in this.

Overall I do recommend this book! It’s a good read and I’m looking forward to reading more by the author

(Definitely check the TW before you read)
