This book is a list of tips for therapists. It is something that I feel I need to come back to, time and time again, and I've found I often quote parts of it in some of my emails.

A classic with lots of great, practical, theory-expansive/trans diagnostic tips. Some not as relevant given the setting I practice in and some that are somewhat outdated, but still a relevant read for anyone who provides therapy!

Some notable quotes from the book:

"We are all in this together and there is no therapist and no person immune to the inherent tragedies of existence." (p. 8)

". . . learning to live well is to learn to die well." (p. 125)

"Sometimes I simply remind patients that sooner or later they will have to relinquish the goal of having a better past." (p. 155)

"We crave the comfort of absolute truth because we cannot bear the desolation of a purely capricious existence." (p. 175)

"Psychotherapy is not a substitute for life but a dress rehearsal for life." (p. 182)
