brilliant but slow read

I don't know what I was expecting when I picked this book up, but it was certainly not to be as blown away as I found myself in the end. The awe it inspired was not for some particularly novel insight it provided me with. I'm familiar with most of what the book deals with, as a soon-to-be psychologist I've covered most if not all of these little tips and areas regarding counseling and psychotherapy. What moved me about the book, though, was the heart-felt way in which it was written, the humanity that shone through the sentences and the genuine concern for the well-being of his patients that is evident in the way in which Yalom writes about them.

What a beautiful therapist, in deed, what a beautiful human being he is! I'd suggest this book for everyone entering the profession, as well as those who have been practicing for a while and maybe feel bored, or tired and are losing sight of what made them pursue this career in the first place.

very interesting stories of the patients and therapy sessions.

I love this book. It’s my second time reading it, first time since leaving grad school. I found myself saying, “I wish Yalom was my supervisor,” because while the advise offered here is incredibly helpful, I want and crave more. For example, I would love to do more dream work but feel like I need a really good supervisor to support me through it.

Anyway, this book served as a good therapeutic tune up.

Perfect. Encouraging and educational. Interesting to see inside the mind of an incredible therapist. Can’t wait to read more by Irvin Yalom.
