Okay, surprisingly better than the first book. I didn’t enjoy the first one too much, but was curious enough that I wanted to know how their story ended.

I am glad I read the second book, I feel it showed a side of Vivian in relation to Jules that we all needed to see, it was nice to see them take on the world together and it wrapped things up quite well.

This is such an interesting book. I think the first of these two could be its own standalone novel - it wraps up in the way a lot of romances do, with the tension and conflict resolved and the characters kind of looking forward to what comes next. What comes next is this whole book, and it's much more clear here that it was adapted from fanfic. This reads like a serial narrative that was kind of planned as it went along. There are small arcs here and there where problems arise and the characters solve them, but it always returns to the status quo after just a few chapters instead of the usual romance structure of 'one central conflict takes a whole book to figure out'.

It ends up being a really refreshing and comforting read. I felt like I was binging a TV show with lots of twists and turns, continuing to enjoy spending time with the characters I've really grown attached to. I wonder if I'll be chasing more stories like these going forward. It seems like they'll be hard to come by.

Because of all this, I think this second book was actually more enjoyable than the first. Truth & Measure really took a long time to get going, and I kinda hated Vivian for the first half or so. Above All Things doesn't need to establish anything so it just feels like coming home.
