A little challenging to review on its own. The book is an important part of the series overall and develops the world and narrative well, setting the stage for things to come. However, as a book itself it is quite slow and uneventful until the last hundred or so pages. Pacing is a bit of an issue for Jordan generally but it’s a particular issue with this book.

Still enjoyable but not quite as gripping as the first two - is it fantasy fatigue or just Nynaeve tugging at her braid too hard?

Less focus on Rand and much more Mat and Perrin which is nice.
However I'm still feeling a touch of chauvinism as the women's stories are good when it's told from their perspective but when they're near a man suddenly we only see the women as the background characters through the male characters eyes
