The Five Crowns of Okrith stays fresh & engaging with new MCs for each story, but also never recycles themes and through lines. Book 1 was an epic quest. Book 2 was very character driven. And in Book 3 THE ROGUE CROWN we have a murder mystery.

Bri has been a loyal friend to our previous two lead characters, but now she must face her own destiny as she races to the aid of the Western Court. She'll meet her match in the West's Princess, now Queen since her mother's murder, and have to choose between the crown Fates prophesied she'd sieze or give her heart in service to love.

Again, these books take the idea of fate and remind us of our agency. Bri has spent her whole life running from her prophecy, yet love now has her running into the arms of Princess Lina whose crown she has no interest in stealing. When you are certain destiny means love ends before it has a chance to grow, how far will Bri & Lina go to keep each other? They make me believe that happiness is worth fighting for - even if you have to challenge destiny.

I love this series so much. It's only a 4 instead of a 5 star, because I personally find F-F romance to be very interesting for me. I need some M in there to keep my interest during a spicy scene. But this entire cast of characters is so well written.

This book was really slow to start with. It was a 3 star for me for a long time, until the last 40 % where the writing was so good. It really livened the whole book and brought it up to a 3 star.

This book also really set up the plot for the next book. Just from what I know in this book, I can't wait to read the next.

It was a slog for a while. If this hadn't been a buddy read in the middle of a series I'd have DNF'd it.

AK Mulford crafts gorgeous worlds with fully fleshed and multidimensional characters that are easy to relate to and fall in love with. I love that Mulford writes queer characters organically, but also that there isn’t some huge fanfare or devastating backstory in order for them to exist—they just are. This isn’t the extent of inclusion for the Okrith world. Readers of all identities and backgrounds can expect to see themselves in someone, and that’s what I love most about Milford’s writing.

The Rogue Crown is one of my favorite sapphic romances ever. I’m a sucker for the bodyguard/princess trope and Mulford delivers it perfectly. Bri has been one of my favorites of the series and to see her get her happiness finally was everything. The tension of the forbidden romance is exquisite.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to be on her team and the ARC!

Slower than the first two books but I appreciate that it was storybuilding for the rest of the series (I hope). I loved Lina!
