I liked the worldbuilding a lot and am excited to see more of it in the rest of the series. The author’s writing is intentional and smart. Pauline and Rafe are probably my favorite characters.

I had a great time with this book. I did not know this serious existed and actually read the Dance of Thieves duology before this and fell in love with the way Mary Pearson writes. I wasn’t too sure about this one at first because the beginning is a bit slow but it does pick up and the twist is phenomenal and I never saw it coming.

If it wasn't for the twist that I absolutely did not see coming, I would have just given this 3 stars. It was easy to read and I liked the characters but it was just a meh plot until the last 180ish pages, then things got interesting. Very excited to see what happens next

I didn’t dislike this but I didn’t form a connection to one of our 3 main characters which was a problem when it was his chapters because I just didn’t care. We got a lot of Rafe and Lia and found their connection more believable but Kaden always felt like an ancillary character. I did enjoy the mystery of who was who in terms of Kaden/Rafe. Who was the prince and who was the assassin? When I found out I was genuinely surprised! It ended on a fun cliffhanger so I’ll be reading the next and hoping to connect more with Kaden in the next
